Our lashes shiver and soon break

As rains begin to fall on soil beneath

To join the morning dew that sits awake

As we rise to the sounds of an earthquake

And we run, with our heads low

You may never know how it is

To fear those that we do not know

To wonder of the seeds they’ve sown

Targets engraved on our backs

As we dart through the thistle

Hiding in the shadows of deep black

To find the grounds begun to crack

And soon the clouds will giveaway

To the pressures of what we have built

Waters will fall and wash this day

As we look to the sky turned dull gray

What stories will my children read,

Of the earth before they came to be?

Looking down, I know from these seeds

That love will grow even amongst the weeds
